Certification had been building in the south of Tanzania, it has become one of the main drivers of coffee growth in the region. Good Agronomic Practices and Certified coffee generated higher returns on higher yields. It was a formula that tripled the region production in just fifteen years.
Government reforms that centered on tackling the governance of producing groups resulted in the disruption of certified coffee supply chains. The following year production volumes in Mbinga dropped by 40%. The economics no longer justified the effort of pruning or the cost of inputs. For the region it has been a disaster. The starting block of this project lie in the rebuilding both supply and demand.
We are certifying 5 AMCOS (Kinjolu, Kibanga, Mikalanga, Kikuli & Ugogo) of 1605 farmers under Rain Forest Alliance, Café Practice. Each of these farmer now have an average producion of 8 bags of green coffee. We are re-establishing international demand through the CTCS supply channels.
